In the BioMedizinZentrumDortmund (BMZ) - a center of excellence at the TechnologieZentrumDortmund - biomedicine’s high-performers come together for research, development and production purposes. Together with the Max-Planck-Center for Molecular Physiology, the BMZ supports technology transfer and regional cooperation between a wide range of research and development areas, with the aim of quickly turning innovative developments into marketable commercial applications.

The BMZ focuses on promoting the fields of biomedicine, bio-IT, proteomics and bio-microstructure technology. Young bio-tech firms and startups can utilize the state-of-the-art infrastructure for implementing their ideas and form a pool of service providers for biomedicine companies.

Within the framework of the Life Sciences Innovation Platform Dortmund, research networks are also coordinated by the BMZ:

at the Center for Applied Chemical Genomics (ZACG) scientists from Dortmund’s Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Physiology and the University of Dortmund carry out fundamental research for medicines in close cooperation with the pharmaceuticals industry.

At the Center for Applied Proteomics (ZAP), the Universities of Bochum and Dortmund, in cooperation with industrial partners, develop and enhance application-oriented protein analytics, protein-biochips and bioinformatics methods.
